Our Mission - You!
This is not a generic "Teach English in Asia!" company that recruits for any school that needs English teachers. We recruit two teacher types for two types of schools:
1) Graduates from the world's top universities (Ivy League focus) to teach English and college-prep subjects at our after-school private academies that value the pedigree of these individuals (in Asia, hiring teachers - even if relatively inexperienced - from Ivy League schools is a big draw for the parents considering sending their kids to those schools).
2) Highly experienced and/or degree-holding teachers who are serious about teaching and would better fit the traditional subject teaching positions at our boarding and prep schools.
When we are selecting schools to recruit for, we ask the basic question: "Why would our teachers want to work for you?" (Quite literally - this is our first question when first consulting any school who wants to recruit with us) All of our schools have some outstanding features that make them desirable to work for, whether that be reputation, salary, atmosphere, etc.
All of us at Ivy In Asia used to be English teachers in one or another Asian country, and we know the various horror stories: English teachers whose recruiters deceived them about their contract, whose school fired them one week early to save on return airfare, who arrived to discover housing wasn't actually provided, etc. There was an obvious need for honest and open teacher recruitment, and I formed Ivy In Asia as a result.
I've made it our mission to give all of our recruits the opportunity to have a fulfilling abroad experience, and to encourage both personal growth and thoughts towards the future while overseas. What does this mean, exactly? It means we WANT you to learn a language, we WANT you to take up a martial art, we WANT you to actively adapt to your new culture. Furthermore, we want you to think about your time abroad as a professional growth period.
The short-term goal (this year) for Ivy In Asia is to make recruitment headway into non-education related industries, so that our recruits who are completing their teaching contracts can then segue their cultural knowledge and previous work experience into a true career in Asia, rather than saying, "Ok, well, that was nice for a year. Now back home..."
I'm very active with Ivy In Asia candidates, and I hope we'll be in touch soon!
